UNESCO Rabat Office Morocco
In celebration of International Jazz Day and in the framework of the project “Music for Sustainable Development in Morocco and Tunisia”, the UNESCO Office for the Maghreb in Rabat organized a multi-faceted series of events to highlight the issue of the place of jazz and improvised music within current music in the Maghreb.
The events include a webinar which features a discussion between artists and festival directors from Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, and Tunisia. The series culminates with an incredible collaborative project resulting from a five day residency between artists from Morocco and Tunisia in which they demonstrate that Maghreb jazz and improvisation offers an important and relevant contribution to the global jazz repertoire.
