“Jazz…can integrate our diversity and remind people that music is one.”
Why do you celebrate International Jazz Day?
Jazz is a music with an international character. So, it is one of the few musical genres able to unite people of all nationalities and ages. Celebrating this day is important to spread this musical genre among young people.
Tell us about a favorite memory from International Jazz Day
I have always loved jazz, since I was a child I preferred films with jazz singers where music blended with images. I’ve always listened to this kind of music, but I’ve never celebrated it as I would. This year I was able to celebrate it by collaborating with the Korean singer Standard1 we come from different nations but we are both enchanted by jazz music, so we work very well together. Jazz is also communicating with artists of different nationalities to create a cultural exchange that can integrate our diversity and remind people that music is one.
How do you think jazz can improve people’s lives?
Music, like art, is able to excite people. I believe that jazz can also have a positive impact in everyday life. Our increasingly stressful lives need a moment of peace and this can be given by music and art.
