In-Person

Jazz At The Movies presents the film “Louis Armstrong’s black & blue”, a portrait of one of the 20th century’s most beloved celebrities as seen through his years of personal scrapbooks, tapes and private journals. In this’ revealing film, Louis opens himself up and talks honestly about his difficulty treading a fine line between his public image as a prominent American jazzman and cultural Ambassador and his private, painful dilemma as a black man in racially segregated America. When he keeps quiet on racism, he is scorned. When he speaks out, he is crucified. But when Louis speaks through his horn, everyone listens, and there’s never been anyone like him. “Louis Armstrong’s black & blue” tells us a truer story of this great American.
