Sponsored by the African American Performing Arts Center and the City of Albuquerque Arts & Culture, this performance by the Youth Jazz Collaborative spotlights the talents of middle school and high school Jazz students who learn the art of jazz improvisation in year-round weekly classes. This year we are proud to present the addition of our “Junior Jazzers,” elementary school students who learn to play Band instruments and are immediately introduced to jazz repertoire and performance technique as they learn their first notes on their instruments. The focus is on learning the uniquely African-American heritage and traditions of jazz through presentation of the music of some of the greatest jazz performers of all time.
