AN AFTERNOON OF DUKE ELLINGTON & BILLY STRAYHORN!
The Novel Jazz Septet will be playing swinging jazz by Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn at Hill Arts, in Portland, ME on Sun., 27 April, 2025, 2PM. This will be a jazz double-header. (1) A live performance of standard and lesser-known tunes by Duke and Strays. (2) Airing of the legendary 1967 film, “The Intimate Duke Ellington,” when Duke recorded two small group sessions for Danish TV. This is an OFFICIAL Portland celebration of International Jazz Day, as declared by the United Nations "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe."
