Rizzoli Bookstore and Tredici Bacci in partnership with Mondo Jazz, and supported by Field Blend Selections, presented zappICONe: Frank Zappa and Ennio Morricone are two of the most important and undefinable composers. Two icons!
While a cursory glance might not show their similarities, a deeper investigation into the work of these two boundary-pushers reveals incredible similarities in their approach toward and openness to improvisation, experimentation, and synthesizing popular music of the 60s/70s. Thus, Zappa and Morricone are united, not only by their prodigious output and expansive stylistic exploration, but by their attitude and open-mindedness, and commitment to furthering the language of music.
