Fran Vielma Pan American Jazz Orchestra will celebrate International Jazz Day on April 30th at Keystone Korner Baltimore

Premiered in 2021, the ensemble showcases contemporary jazz inspired by the musics of Pan-America, a historic blend that began in 19th-century New Orleans and was shaped by the Afro-Caribbean diaspora and the Haitian Revolution. The orchestra draws inspiration from legends such as Justo Aspiazú, Chano Pozo, Mario Bauzá, Machito, Chico O’Farrill, Dizzy Gillespie, as well as Lucho Bermúdez, Aldemaro Romero, and Astor Piazzolla. Fran Vielma, an award-winning composer and percussionist, leads and writes for this ensemble featuring his original works with contemporary arrangements of the traditional songbook of the Americas.
