Basie Swings the Blues
04/30
Kansas City , MO
Kansas City, Missouri will welcome the Count Basie Orchestra home to the city where the band started 91 years ago. Still swinging around the world, the Basie Orchestra is led by Scotty Barnhart. This year we will feature the 2024 Grammy Award wining album “Basie Swings the Blues” with a special Kansas City swing. Music will feature the connections between blues and Kansas City swing – especially the legacy of Kansas City’s own Jay McShann. The events will be centered on the historic Music Hall in downtown Kansas City. We will also honor the life and work of jazz advocate Anita Dixon-Brown, founder of Creative City KC – the first UNESCO City of Music in the United States and home to the historic Mutual Musicians Foundation building.
