Portland , ME

In-Person

WMPG’s Jazz At The Movies and The Portland Conservatory of Music are pleased to present “Sonny Rollins: Beyond The Notes”, a film about the living jazz legend saxophonist Sonny Rollins.
“Beyond The Notes” was filmed at Sonny Rollins 80th birthday concert with Roy Haynes, Jim Hall, Roy Hargrove, Ornette Coleman, and Christian McBride. It is an inspiring movie about Rollins, the Saxophone Colossus, who strode across the history of jazz, bridging bebop and the avant-garde in his fabulous 7 decade journey in jazz..The last surviving musician from Art Kane’s famous 1958 group photo of New York jazz musicians, A Great Day in Harlem, Sonny Rollins is the only living musician who played with Bird, Monk, Miles and Trane in the history of jazz.
