This year our contribution to the world stage is a tribute concert to one of our best, the Maestro, Guido Basso. A Canadian jazz icon, once a member of Rob McConnell’s Boss Brass, Basso was a trumpeter, flugelhornist, arranger, composer, & conductor. An intuitive player who approached his instrument with deep emotion and agility.

Guido passed away at the age of 85 in February of 2023 & our community misses him dearly. With this tribute concert we have pulled together some of Canada’s finest players in Chase Sanborn, Brian O’Kane, John Sherwood, Terry Clarke, Neil Swainson and Reg Schwager to honour him.

Also, throughout the day on JAZZ.FM91, we’ll air special messages from musicians around the world acknowledging the day itself.
