It is impossible to talk about jazz without talking about Duke Ellington!
He is widely considered one of America's greatest composers - responsible for over 1000 songs many of which remain standards today. Towards the end of his life, he published a memoir titled Music is My Mistress, and it is this affair, rather than a sordid examination of his love life, that we honor on the 50th anniversary of Ellington's death. In Ellington's Mistress, Christopher Coleman celebrates the legacy of Duke Ellington by taking us through the life and work of this great pianist, composer, and band leader.
