In celebration of the International Jazz Day, 11th year, DOJACMC Foundation (Foundation (Development of Jazz and Creative Music Curacao) will be honored by Mongui Maduro Library, in a private ceremony featuring a permanent collection of Curacao native and DOJACMC founder and music educator, the late jazz saxophonist, John James Willekes, Jr.“JJ COOL”. In addition, the foundation will also launch the 1st “Curacao Jazz Legends” website. In celebration of the “11th year” of International Jazz Day, DOJACMC Foundation will be honored by Mongui Maduro Library, in a private ceremony featuring a permanent collection of the Life & Legacy of Curacao native and DOJACMC founder, the late jazz saxophonist and music educator, John James Willekes, Jr.”JJ COOL”, on April 30th from 7:00PM – 9:00PM.
According to the Library’s, manager, Monique Albert, the John James Willekes, Jr., induction ceremony, represents the 1st permanent installation of a contemporary artist/musician, in any category, here in Curaçao. “It is with a great honor that we receive this historical 40-year legacy from our “Guest-of-Honor” Mrs. Edna Monifa Willekes-King “LadyMo” Co-founder/Director of DOJACMC Foundation (Development of Jazz and Creative Music Curacao).
The foundation will introduce the 1st “Curacao Jazz Legends” website. The purpose of the website, is to expose and to educate both the public and global audience, concerning the historical record of Curacao Jazz legends and artist, from 1930 until present, with continuous updates. The web content creation is designed by SynergyCaribbean.Com and powered by Prins Bernard Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied.
The event will be organized by Mongui Maduro Library and the program will include speakers dr. Rose Mary Allen, Distinguished Professor of Culture Community History at the University of Curaçao. Avid jazz activist Vanessa Tore and Director “Sra. Willekes-King will also shed some light on the life & legacy of the late, John James Willekes Jr.. The permanent collection forms a valuable source of information for students, historians and everyone interested in the value of music education and the legacy of Curaçao’s music legend and jazz saxophonist John James Willekes, Jr. The collection will be available for consult as from May 3rd , 2022. The program will close with a tremendous tribute from the Curacao Jazz Legends jazz band, featuring band leader, jazz legend, bassist, Eric Calmus.
