UNESCO established International Jazz Day on April 30 in 2011 to highlight jazz and its diplomatic power in bringing people together worldwide. Led by the UNESCO Director-General and Herbie Hancock, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, the Day promotes peace, inclusion, human rights, gender equality, and freedom of expression through concerts, education, and community engagement. Since 2012, it has also been officially recognized by the United Nations.
