International Max-Jazz Day
04/30 18:00
Rome
A day dedicated to Massimo Urbani: a very charming location in Rome downtown, "La Casa dell'Aviatore", not far from Stazione Termini and with a wonderful garden for an event that will include a book presentation on Charlie Parker by Francesco Cataldo Verrina, an authoritative jazz scholar, who will create a bridge between the figure of probably the most important jazz figure, with the Italian most important jazz figure, Massimo Urbani. And then, a live concert by "Patrizio Destriere Quartet".
Patrizio is a prominent emerging saxophonist in the Italian Scene. "Portrait of Ennio" is not only a tribute to the music of Maestro Morricone, but also a personal portrait of how the quartet, led by saxophonist Patrizio Destriere, sees and hears the music that has accompanied famous and less famous films over the course of half a century of production. From Dinner to The Legend of 1900, from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly to Once Upon a Time in America.
Patrizio Destriere comments on the new album as follows: "Playing Maestro Morricone's music is always a very complex operation, one could say it's like trying to reproduce Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa or Michelangelo's Pietà. The Maestro's music is a world heritage and each of us is linked for one reason or another to the soundtracks of the 600 or more films that the Maestro has composed, not to mention his academic production and the various collaborations he had. Therefore, approaching his work awes any artist; starting from this, the album Portrait of Ennio is a sort of perspective vision revisited according to my sensitivity and that of the musicians who played with me towards Ennio's musical corpus. A vision linked to the Maestro's jazz side, which, as he himself stated, he always considered a music distant from his soul; our contribution was to enhance this vision of his work by developing it with our language with careful arrangements and sounds that go beyond commercial cataloguing. Portrait of Ennio aims to be the a portrait that encompasses the many facets of a complex and brilliant composer such as Ennio Morricone”.
