Regent Jazz refers to the live music concerts held at Leicester’s Regent Sports and Social Club. On April 29th, 2025, AFRO CITY will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of South Africa’s Zacks Nkosi.
Zacks Nkosi was an exceptional bandleader, composer, and saxophonist. He is regarded as one of the most significant figures during the golden age of African Jazz in the 1950s and ’60s. Not only did he possess a distinctive voice as a soloist on clarinet and alto saxophone, but he was also a prominent composer. His beautiful melodies often bridged the world of African Jazz and Swing. He is also known as the Father of “Our Kind of Jazz” and the performance, led by Saxophonist Ned Newitt, will celebrate and honour this South African Jazz Legend!
