The “Tito Schipa” Conservatory marks International Jazz Day 2026 with a prestigious Gala Concert at Lecce’s Teatro Apollo. Titled “1926-2026 | THE CENTENNIALS,” the event honors the legacies of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Franco Cerri. Conducted by Stefano Luigi Mangia, the Big Band presents an orchestral reimagining of modern jazz, enhanced by documentary videos to engage a diverse audience. The evening features Special Guest of Honor Rick Margitza, the acclaimed saxophonist and former Miles Davis collaborator. By uniting students, faculty, and international excellence, the Institution fulfills the UNESCO mandate, promoting jazz as a vital tool for intercultural dialogue, peace, and cultural exchange in the heart of Salento.
