“Caribe Libre” is a vibrant program led by Cuban musicians Raul Reyes (vocals) and Osvaldo Pegudo (percussion), celebrating Latin music and its deep connection with Jazz. Inspired by Dizzy Gillespie’s pioneering collaboration with Latin musicians in New York, which helped give birth to Latin Jazz, the concert explores the rich fusion of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and jazz.
The program opens with Manteca, one of the most iconic Latin Jazz pieces, performed in Dizzy Gillespie’s original big band orchestration. It continues with classics such as Bilongo, Contigo en la Distancia, and Mambo No. 5, among others, featuring rhythms like cha-cha-chá, bolero, and mambo.
