Amaro Freitas & Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve

Faro

In-Person

In 2024, Amaro Freitas presented the album Y’Y, a tribute to the forest, especially the Amazon Forest and the Rivers of Northern Brazil. It presents new textures, inspired by John Cage's piano and the striking work of percussionist Naná Vasconcellos.
The show creates a “sound forest” atmosphere using the sound of fifes, thunder drums, prepared piano and breathing; This is followed by songs in honor of Naná Vasconcellos, and a melodic theme, in which the piano appears with the m'bira, an African musical instrument. In the second part, Amaro's modern Afro pianism brings to the stage “Y’Y”, a word from the Sateré Mawé dialect and also “Mar de Cirandeiras”, and finally “Gloriosa”, in which the artist invites the public to sing a melody.
