Journey to Jazz opens at the breathtaking Kritikom Koppie Quarry situated in the North end part of Prince Albert in the Western Cape South Africa, a natural amphitheatre carved into the Karoo landscape. (The Karoo is a vast, semi-desert natural region). This ceremony sets the tone for the festival, grounding us in place, history and the land that holds our stories. As the sun rises behind the koppie, the quarry comes alive with sound, movement and gathering energy. Musicians, community voices and invited artists create a powerful opening moment that honours the spirit of the town: resilient, creative and deeply connected. This is an invocation, a call to listen, to witness, and to step into four days of music, culture and Karoo magic.
