Maybe you know this: We are sitting in a very exciting concert and are completely absorbed. The concert has been going on for about forty minutes and is, yes, complex. We marvel without being overwhelmed and are absorbed, especially because of the unfamiliarity, partly also the intelligence of the sounds. It is multi-layered, profound. We could still wander deeper with our ears.
And then suddenly: this totally simple melody, a song structure, comparatively very clear. Suddenly the light turns on, we see the world widely, and the seriousness with which it is presented arises from the reduction. It arises from 'having nothing to prove,' from the sudden absence of obvious complexity.
