On the occasion of International Jazz Day, the cultural radio station LRT KLASIKA, the Lithuanian Jazz Federation and the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO have brought together a diverse Lithuanian jazz community –creators and performers of music –who will organise a festive jazz concert directly from the LRT studio.

On Saturday 30 April at 19:00 (7:00 pm EET), a live broadcast of the Jazz Day concert will be broadcast on LRT KLASIKA, on the television channel LRT PLIUS and on the portal LRT.lt. A special guest of this broadcast will be Andrey Chmut, a saxophonist from Ukraine, whose participation in the Ukrainian jazz scene has been interrupted by the brutal war. For the performer, the Lithuanian stage does not replace that of his home country, but becomes a tribune to talk about Ukraine.

The music played in the concert will be united by a common theme of peace, and the experiences of musicians of different generations will be revealed through this motif. Some will convey this fundamental idea through their well-known jazz standards or through their own compositions, while others will interpret already known motifs. Andrey Polevikov and Girmantė will perform a song based on Ukrainian folk motifs, Petras Vyšniauskas will do a solo improvisation on Ukrainian themes, and saxophonist Andrey Chmut will perform one of his own compositions.

"This broadcast is like an improvised jam session, in which the performers use their own music, or well-known jazz standards, or decide what to play just during the concert, using a rhythm group. Solo, duo, trio, quartet – all formats are possible in the concert, as well as participation from different generations of Lithuanian jazz. The head of LRT KLASIKA, Julijus Grickevičius, says that the list of performing artists will include the master of improvisation – saxophonist Petras Vyšniauskas, a performer who has appeared on all continents – Dainius Pulauskas, and the young composers Giedrius Nakas and Mindaugas Stumbras, who are conquering international stages”.

A large group of Lithuanian jazz professionals will perform at the concert. The works will be performed by musicians Giedrius Nakas (piano), Gediminas Stepanavičius (double bass), and Domantas Razmus (drums), with the participation of soloists Marius Šinkūnas (vibrophone), Donatas Petreikis (saxophone), Dainius Pulauskas and Valerijus Ramoškas (piano and trumpet), Petras Vyšniauskas (saxophone), Veronika Chi (vocals), Mindaugas Stumbras (guitar), Andrey Chmut (saxophone), Andrejs Polevikovs (piano) and Girmantė Vaitkutė (vocals).

The broadcast is organized in cooperation with the Lithuanian Jazz Federation and the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO.

The JAZZ DAY concert of LRT KLASIKA (radio) will take place on 30 April. It will also be shown on LRT PLUS (television), via the LRT.lt website: https://www.lrt.lt/mediateka/tiesiogiai/lrt-klasika and on the Facebook accounts of the Lithuanian Jazz Federation and the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO social network.
