Big Band 101 with UPSI Big Band

This event seeks to introduce Big Band music to young audiences, particularly primary and secondary school students, in celebration of jazz as a vital cultural heritage. As a cornerstone in the evolution of jazz, Big Band fosters musical understanding alongside collaboration, discipline, and mutual respect. In a time marked by social and political challenges, we take responsibility to promote unity, dialogue, and shared values through ensemble performance. As Wynton Marsalis describes jazz as a “democratic society,” this initiative embraces these principles. Led by the UPSI Big Band, the programme introduces swing and related styles while nurturing active listening and collective musicianship.
