The ‘Before Dawn, a Small Boat Sets Out… Ocean of Voices — Jazz Meets Children’s Poetry’ project brings together two UNESCO Cities of Literature — Odesa and Okayama — through the improvised music of Honolulu’s Red Nova:
Peter Shaindlin (trumpet, hand percussion),
Jay Jaskot (percussion),
Randy Wong (bass),
Mika Mimura (marimba).
Featuring poems by children from MISONO Kodomo-no-Ie —
Floating (Aoi),
The Little Shopkeeper (Mikoto),
and Me-as-a-Cat (Tsugumi) —
the project extends a poetic dialogue, as Japanese children’s poems are included in Odesa’s New Odyssey almanac.
