To celebrate UNESCO International Jazz Day, the very best jazz talent from South Australia and beyond will be showcased at a special International Jazz Day concert on 30 April 2019. Since its designation in 2015 as a UNESCO City of Music, Adelaide’s reputation as a vibrant city of music has flourished. Held annually on April 30 Adelaide Festival Centre is proud to continue its role in the UNESCO initiative of International Jazz Day. Presented by Adelaide Festival Centre.

Australia MBS Light International Jazz Day Broadcast

MBS Light – the digital side of the Music Broadcasting Society of Queensland – will be celebrating International Jazz Day with a 6-hour program anchored by MBS Light and national community radio announcer, John Diegan, working from a custom-built studio at the Brisbane Jazz Club. John will commence the program at 6.00 pm followed by a tribute to the New Orleans Jazz scene by MBS Light Jazz presenter, John Van, aka Dr Gumbo, an honorary citizen of the city of New Orleans. Live action at the Club will be broadcast on MBS Light through to 10.15 pm when the program will cross to MBS Light’s Coorparoo studios. Technical support will be provided by Chris Nainby of Totally Technical and Jason Whiting of JTV Video and MBS Light volunteers.

Celebrate International Jazz Day at this FREE concert event featuring the next generation of jazz greats from the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra and WAAPA.

In November 2011, UNESCO officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. This year the official international celebration is held in Sydney.

This event is presented in collaboration with WAYJO, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), the Perth International Jazz Festival and with kind support from the Minderoo Foundation.
